In the deepest sense calligraphy is the experience of moving through space and leaving tracks behind. It is the visual voice of the moment. The brush is the most sensitive of calligraphic tools, able to respond to the subtlest gesture. Beginning with the ancient Chinese straight line practice, we will explore the principles of heaven, earth, and human, through the bones of traditional pictograms and then the openness of large brush strokes. An interest in visual language is the only prerequisite.
