Workshop Spend a day with sketchbook, pencil and brush, gathering images from the natural world, and writing words that illuminate the moment. The act of drawing, bringing pencil and brush to the page, connects us with our basic nature. Going outdoors to draw we sit still and observe. Out of this quiet the natural world starts to show up. The birds are curious and come closer. We begin to slow down and the world opens. Through focusing out on the myriad forms we become inquisitive. The more we draw the more we understand and the more we fall in love. The practice of illustrated journaling establishes again and again our allegiance to life, through the willingness to see what is and bring that aliveness down onto the page. Following in the footsteps of the Chinese we will combine words and images in fresh immediate ways. With the ancient principles of heaven, earth and human as our guide a natural order emerges. The outer landscape awakens the inner and awareness deepens. Barbara Bash will lead this artistic exploration of a summer day following the illustrated journaling practice of her book True Nature. No previous art experience needed.
