Making a Mark

The BIG BRUSH has been held by many hands over the years – from buddhist practitioners and corporate bankers to high school students and recovering mental health patients. Each time a brush stroke is made with full attention, aliveness enters the room and nourishes everyone.

HOW IT WORKS

A series of calligraphy stations are set up, with sheets of paper, buckets of ink and large horsehair brushes. Participants come forward and are guided through a simple set of instructions in the making of a stroke, experiencing the nature of beginnings, following through, and completing. The marks are witnessed, then folded up, put aside, and a new sheet is laid out for the next person. The sequence unfolds in silence.

WHAT IT IS

The Big Brush Workshop draws on ancient principles from the art of calligraphy and applies them to our present moment. It provides an insight-invoking experience of what it means to make a mark and bring the best of who you are to the world.

“This workshop provided a safe space for me to explore power and expression in new ways.” M.K. Authentic Leadership in Action conference

“The experience changed the way I approach my leadership role in the organization. I’ve learned there is a gentler more effective process for obtaining results. “ — P.W.  ABN/AMRO Bank, Holland
